ISNTC Promotes Social and Environmental Awareness to Seafarers
Intership Navigation Training Center (ISNTC) introduces social and environmental awareness to its Pre-Sea Cadet Training Program. ISNTC Pre-Sea Cadets conducts series of community service projects in the City of Manila.
Since September 2010, Pre-Sea Cadets, starting with Batch 2010-C commenced the service program. Every week, with the help of leaders and residents of the community, the cadets conduct cleaning operation of Asuncion Street in Malate, Manila. They sweep the street, remove obstructions from the street canals and collect garbage. Although there are persons assigned by the government to clean the street, cleaning of the street needs public assistance due to numerous garbage thrown in the street as it is beside the park and public sport facilities visited daily by numerous people.
Also in July 2011, Pre-sea Cadets Batch 2011-B joined forces with various government agencies and private sectors in the “SAVE THE MANILA BAY” project of the Philippine Coast Guard. ISNTC cadets together with some community officials of Brgy. 701, Zone 78 were assigned to clean 2 kilometer-long Manila Bay Boardwalk. Government agencies such as Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) were also present to help in managing the street children and beggars in the area. On the other hand, the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC), Rotary Club of Manila, and Manila Yacht Club were on the waters of Manila Bay clearing floating and underwater trash.
